Clean, Grey or Black Water -
In Flood Restoration, we define water in 3 different categories. We use the terms Cat 1, Cat 2 and Cat 3. You might also hear the categories described as Clean, Grey and Black.

Did you know it’s not just your waste that just came back up out of your toilet or shower drain?
Sewage contains all sorts of nasties, and not just the nasties we can see or smell!
We specialise in dealing with high risk situations, and Category 3, Black Water, Sewage or Storm damage definitely fall into the high risk category of water damage and flood damage.

In a Cat 3 loss, these circumstances change dramatically. If a property is impacted by sewage or black water, the property will need to be thoroughly cleaned before any drying can take place.
Cat 3 water is water that is contaminated by bacteria, fungi, viruses along with other pollutants, such as, PCB’s, insecticides, pesticides, lead, paints, solvents, chemicals, and so much more.
Once a property has been impacted by black water, the only way to remove the contaminants is to clean, clean, clean and physically remove all signs of contamination.
Often this will mean partial demolition of some of the structure.
All porous and semi porous items will need to be removed and disposed of.
All to often the risk posed by black water is misunderstood and down played.
